An afternoon with award-winning picture book author
Saturday, April 22

Co-sponsored by the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, Florida
and the Creative Writing Program at Ringling College of Art + Design
Rob will introduce you to the vast variety of picture books on the market, lead you to analyze lists of award-winning and best-selling picture books, and uncover what some picture book gurus consider the secrets to success in this popular genre. Then, in an interactive, hands-on session, Sanders will lead you to develop an idea for a picture book of your very own, and help you to begin to plot it out. The session will also include first-page critiques where anonymous submissions from members of the audience will be read aloud and critiqued on the spot. Here’s your chance to take your writing to the next level.
To participate in the first-page critiques (don’t worry, no one will ever know who you are), bring the first page of your picture book manuscript that has been formatted as follows: 1-inch margins on all sides, 12-pt. type, double-spaced, start with the title as the first line, and paste in the text until you reach the bottom of the page (it’s okay if the page break is in the middle of a sentence or paragraph). No names on submissions, please.
This meeting is free and open to the public.
No registration required.
