“MIRRORS AND WINDOWS” EQUITY & INCLUSION
SCHOLARSHIPS
Purpose:
• Promote, encourage, and uplift under-represented voices in the children’s book industry, including, but not limited to, those who identify as Black, Indigenous or Native Americans, and people of color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+, religious and cultural minorities, those who are neurodiverse, those with disabilities, and those who are economically challenged. If you feel that your access to publishing is limited because of some other reason, issue or cause, we encourage you to apply.
Scholarships Available:
• 3 intensive scholarships (Friday, May 19)
• 3 full conference scholarships (Friday, May 19, 4:30 PM – Sunday, May 21, 1:30 PM)
Application Period Opens:
• Wednesday, February 8, 2023, 9:00 AM
Application Period Closes:
• Monday, March 13, 2023, 11:59 PM
Notification of Scholarship Recipients:
• Winners will be notified by Friday, March 17, 2023. You will be given a code so you can register. If you do not receive a scholarship, you will still have time to register before early bird registartion closes.
Eligibility:
Scholarships are intended to provide for under-represented voices in children’s publishing, including, but not limited to, those who identify as:
• Black
• Indigenous or Native Americans
• People of color
• LGBTQIA+
• Religious and cultural minorities
• Neurodiverse
• A person with disabilities
• One who is economically challenged.
• If you feel that your access to publishing is limited because of some other reason, issue or cause, we encourage you to apply.
NOTE: Any decisions regarding eligibility are yours to make, but we ask that you mindfully consider the spirit of this award.
Limitations:
• One scholarship per person.
• Scholarships are only for current SCBWI members. Priority will be given to SCBWI Florida members, but members from other regions may also apply.
• Previous winners: If you have received a scholarship from SCBWI Florida previously, we ask you to kindly allow others the opportunity to receive a scholarship for this conference.
• Being married to, a parent of, or a sibling of someone identifying as a member of one of the eligibility categories, or being someone who has grown up with people who identify as such, will not qualify an otherwise ineligible applicant.
