The SCBWI FLORIDA 2023 Rising Kite
Writing and Illustration Contests
The contests’ entry period runs from
September 1, 2022 at 9:00 AM EDT to
September 30, 2022 at 5:00 PM EDT
The SCBWI Florida 2023 Rising Kite Writing and Illustration Contests recognize Florida’s best writing and illustration for children. In so doing, we also celebrate the work and dedication of our region’s authors and illustrators, both published and unpublished. We seek to encourage authors and illustrators to continue to follow their dreams; to recognize their successes; and to provide a platform for authors and illustrators to share their work with a larger audience. The writing contest features three categories—picture book, middle grade and young adult and the illustration contest centers on a unique prompt.
The top place finishers will have their work reviewed by an agent, editor or art director and will be recognized at our virtual SCBWI Florida Critique-a-Palooza and Palooza Celebration and Award Ceremony on January 14, 2023. And the first place winners will receive a scholarship for an intensive of the winner’s choosing at the 2023 SCBWI Florida Regional Conference in Ft. Lauderdale.
These contests are free and for SCBWI Florida members only. If you’ve let your membership lapse or if you are not a member of SCBWI Florida, join now at scbwi.org. A link to enter the contest will be at the bottom of this page when the entry period opens on September 1, 2022.
The contests are a great opportunity, but there are some rules. You must follow all deadlines and formatting requirements. Check out the guidelines for how to submit your work for both contests, along with some important FAQs!
