To be critiqued by Nancy Brennan, Art Director, Penguin Random House
and Floyd Cooper, Author/Illustrator
Start by choosing any Mother Goose verse, ideally one that can be interpreted in a wide variety of ways, to create your unique character. Create a double page spread using your character to illustrate the verse, no text in place, but with consideration of where it would work within the illustration. Please don’t base your character on any previous interpretations of the text, create this character as your own! Any page size is fine, as long as the illustration works as a double page spread.
For Intensive: (Required)
Send your final art (label, text, and specs as stated below) to Linda Shute by June 11 so it can be included in the powerpoint presentation for critique.
Please also bring your original art, or a paper printout of it, if digital, on June 15.
For advance feedback: (Optional).
Early registrants can get advance feedback on their work from Art Director Nancy Brennan. Send the sketches of your layout which you intend to develop into final art and include the text you are illustrating in the body of your email (not in the sketch). Please submit the art as a 300 dpi jpeg, not exceeding 8MB.
Label the image with your name and the title of the verse i.e.:
