The SCBWI FLORIDA Rising Kite Writing and Illustration Contests 2021

The contests’ entry period runs from September 1, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. to
September 30, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. EST

REGISTRATION HAS CLOSED

The annual SCBWI Florida Rising Kite Writing and Illustration Contests recognize Florida’s best writing and illustration for children. In so doing, we also celebrate the work and dedication of our region’s authors and illustrators, both published and unpublished. We seek to encourage authors and illustrators to continue to follow their dreams; to recognize their successes; and to provide a platform for authors and illustrators to share their work with a larger audience. The writing contest features three categories—picture book, middle grade and young adult and the illustration contest centers on a unique prompt.

The top-placed finishers will have their work reviewed by an agent, editor or art director and will be recognized at our virtual January conference. And the first place winners will receive a scholarship.

This event is free and for SCBWI Florida members only. Members will be required to register for the event on the Florida SCBWI website. They will then be emailed a link to an electronic submission form to submit their work. If you’ve let your membership lapse or if you are not a member of SCBWI Florida, join now at scbwi.org.

The contests are a great opportunity, but there are some rules. You must follow all deadlines and formatting requirements. Check out the guidelines for how to submit your work for both contests, along with some important FAQs!
